Obituary of Judith Catherine Holtz

Judith Catherine "Judy" Holtz, 78, of State College, died Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Born December 30, 1942, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late John F. and C. Bernice Prentice Hauser. On February 7, 1970 she married John J. Holtz, who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Maureen Holtz and her husband Chris Motch of State College, Sharon Nelson and her husband Robert of State College, and John (Jay) Holtz of Easton; two sisters, Sister Patricia Hauser, I.H.M. of Scranton, PA, and Priscilla Barr and her husband Thomas of Florence, AZ; and five grandchildren, Olivia, Violet, Sidney, Elsa and August. Judy and John made their home in Charleroi, PA, where they raised their three children. Upon retirement, she and John relocated to State College, PA in 2006.

Judy earned her bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Marywood University in Scranton, PA and worked most of her career as a Registered Dietician (RD). Judy valued education and healthy living and her career choices reflected those attributes. From time spent working in hospital settings in the Pittsburgh area, to working with seniors via a grant at the California PA Senior Center or with young mothers at the WIC program, among numerous other professional endeavors, Judy's life was dedicated to the wellness of others.

Once settled in State College, she continued to volunteer with State College Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and Interfaith Human Services, always leaving plenty of time for home-cooked meals and baked goods for her family and friends. Judy was always the first to offer a helping hand wherever help was needed.

Additionally, she was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and was an avid volunteer for church activities and events.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Our Lady Of Victory, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, with Father Michael Pleva officiating.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Monongahela, PA at a date to be determined by the family.
