I was Ozzie's student at Middlesex, along with Larry Rhu (see below). Ozzie was a great teacher--no pomposity, just completely into what we were reading and helping us to see how it might figure into the rest of the world. At graduation he slipped a book into my hands that I've treasured ever since, a collection of poems by Rainer Maria Rilke. On the inside he wrote "To Jim--Graduation 1963. Thank you for teaching me. Mr. Oz." Just a wonderful man and a great teacher. Jim Kugel

Ozzie became a dear teacher friend of my youth as soon as he arrived at Middlesex. His candor and passionate concern with teaching distinguished him from the start. During my junior year, Ozzie taught a drama course that met in a room with a desk on a raised dais in front of the blackboard. Once, in moving back and forth between the board and the dais, he stumbled slightly because he forgot the step down off the dais. When several students laughed, Ozzie looked out at the class and remarked, “The next time I’ll break my leg, and that will really amuse you.” In the moral order of things, you might say, he didn’t miss a step. He recognized laughter at the misfortune of another (himself in this case, but that’s beside the point) for the cruelty it is, and he knew how it can spread in a class or a crowd. He clearly called it out, almost instinctively. Ozzie inspired me in many ways, and he continues to do so. I was lucky to have him as a friend and a teacher.

I first met "Oz" at the Bellefonte library movie club. As I sat down he introduced himself as "Oz" and I replied I'm "Dorothy". We became lifelong partners at many library programs. We had many same interests, what a wonderful man. May his family remember many special memories.
My prayers and sympathy to his family.

Debbie, Heather and Caitlin, So sad to hear this news. I have many fond memories of working with Oz during his many years as Artistic Director with the Martin Community Players. Oz was a great 'teaching director.' I learned a great deal from him while working on plays with the Martin Community Players. He was a very talented actor and director. He was very proud of his family and loved to talk about his beautiful and bright and talented daughters. I am grateful to have known him. Sincerely, Sam Speller

I along with so many of his students have taken what we learned from him throughout our life’s journey. He is greatly respected and will be greatly missed. All of us are better for having you in our lives. Thank you Oz.
