Pat had been an outstanding leader -- business, community, cultural, education, civics, public governance -- for decades. He always listened, treated people with great respect and kindness, and led groups with compassionate leadership. He supported downtown, neighborhoods, Penn State students, faculty, alumni and visitors, local nonprofits, the hospitality industry in PA. Yet, Pat always worked quietly behind the scenes to move people to achieve a goal. The borough of State College, Centre Region, Centre County, and Penn State would not be at the top without Pat. Our Constitution Day Centre Board was honored to recognize Pat with the Madison Award for Civility in the Community for leadership. God bless, and we'll be seeing you someday, Pat.

First met Pat back in 1968/69. Since I coached with Joe Paterno for a very long time, I became a part of the large dinner party that dined each Thursday evening at the tavern. That was the designated time that Joe wanted us to take out our wife/girlfriend to make up for the seven day job that we all willingly worked during most of the year. Pat was the greeter that made our work week very palatable with warmth and wonderful food, with scallops becoming my favorite for decades. My wife and I always eat our anniversary dinner there and ask for the end table when there is snow on the ground. We always ask if Pat is in the building in order that we greet him warmly. It was a treat to dine with him. Last time we talked we were discussing old Bowl watches. State College has lost a real democrat and a gem. Our condolences run deep to all in his family.

Hello Ruth,
I am Ed and Ginny Czekaj's daughter Leanne and Maddie Czekaj's aunt. I have lived in Maine for the past 6 years and just finished watching Pat's Memorial Service at the Penn Stater. Such a wonderful tribute to a very gracious man! Throughout the years dining at the Tavern, I always looked forward to seeing and speaking with Pat. It always made my "heart feel good". He was a wonderful friend to my parents and a very special mentor to Maddie. Maddie will truly miss him and is so grateful for the two trips with you both to St. Martin. I had spoken with Pat at length at Maddie's high school graduation party. He had several great stories of his time spent in Maine.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and all your family.

As an alumna, a visit to the Lion Shrine and a dinner at The Tavern are must-dos. It was extra fun when Pat was there. I first met him in the late sixties as a student. He was a waiter at a restaurant we students rarely could afford (unless our parents were in town). Pat always made our time there special. He had a great sense of humor and a huge heart. Condolences to all of his family. Judy Donina Wolfe '70

Pat was a true gentleman and I was lucky to count him as a friend. He and Dawn really helped my family out when my daughter needed an apartment for her last semester. I wish his family all the best and he will be sincerely missed.

Pat was an outstanding officer in the 876th Engineer Battalion of the Pennsylvania National Guard. I was proud to serve with him when I was Battalion Supply Sergeant and he was the Supply Officer. I have great memories of Pat especially on some of our overnight bivouacs in the Johnstown Area. Rest in Peace my friend.
