Obituary of Elizabeth L. Deibler
Elizabeth "Betty" L. Deibler, of Pennsylvania Furnace, died Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born October 20, 1929, in Pomfret, CT, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Rhena Howe Angell.
She married the late Harry C. Deibler on September 17, 1950, at the Meeks Church (later Fairbrook UMC), Pennsylvania Furnace.
She is survived by three children, Linda M. Roan and her husband John W., Carol A. Martin and her husband Eric, and Beverley J. Deibler; all of Pennsylvania Furnace; five grandchildren, Jason Kanagy of Pine Grove Mills, Laurie Kanagy Harcrow of Maple Shade, NJ, Barbara Roan of Kalamazoo, MI, Rebecca Roan of Honesdale, and Allyson Roan Borger of Warriors Mark; four great-grandchildren, Jewels Harcrow, Kohen Aselin, Amelia Richards, and Lillyan Borger; and one brother, Lawrence Angell. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Florence Stampe, Charles Angell, Frances Angell, Susan Scovel, and Leonard Angell.
In the 1940s, Betty worked near Pomfret, CT, at The Haven, a nursing home, and the Connecticut State Forest Service Fire Tower.
She moved to Pennsylvania in 1949 to help her sister care for her children. During the next few years, she worked as a nanny for Dr. Harriet Harry and a salesclerk at G.C. Murphy Co. variety store in State College, PA.
Betty and her husband farmed at the corner of Deibler and Whitehall Roads in Baileyville from 1952–1977. Betty continued to live there since. She earned her GED in 1980 and worked in the cafeteria at the Ferguson Township Elementary School until 1982. That year, she began babysitting the children of Baileyville, inspiring their creativity with crafts and activities around her kitchen table. She also mended clothing, baked pies, and enjoyed caning chairs for folks in the community. In recent years, weather permitting, Betty took daily trips around the neighborhood on her little red scooter. She was a good neighbor to all.
As a member of Fairbrook United Methodist Church since 1950, Betty served on many committees, including the Administrative Board, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She donated her famous pies to many fundraisers and became known as the beloved grandmother of the Fairbrook UM church family.
Betty was a 60-year member of Baileyville Grange, serving on several committees, including her many years as chair of Family Activities. She also served as a reservation clerk and janitor for over ten years for the Baileyville Community Hall Association. Additionally, in the 1960s, she served as an assistant Girl Scout leader and 4H leader.
Betty enjoyed being a member of the State College YMCA for 18 years, where she attended water aerobics and water walking classes three days a week through Fall 2021.
Betty went to her heavenly home, listening to her favorite Christmas carol, "Silent Night."
Burial will be in Fairbrook Cemetery, Pennsylvania Furnace.
