Obituary of Jean A. (Gardner) Brownley
Jean A. Brownley, 79, of State College, PA passed away peacefully on January 31, 2022 at Centre Care Rehabilitation and Wellness Center.
She was born June 9, 1942 in Williamsport, a daughter of the late Lloyd F. And Theresa (Hively) Gardner.
Jean was the wife of Donald L. Brownley of State College. They married on September 11, 1965 and enjoyed 56 happy years together.
A graduate of Williamsport Area High School, Jean worked at various clerical and accounting positions throughout her career. She retired from Penn State Office of Physical Plant in 2002.
Along with her husband, she is survived by her children, Laura L. (Mark) Hinish of Port Matilda and Mark (Megan) Brownley of Myrtle Beach, SC.
Jean was the sister to Howard L. (Jane) Gardner, Williamsport, PA, Harold P. (Sylvia) Gardner, Richmond, VA, Lloyd C. Gardner (Jackie), Bradenton FL, and Mary A. (Bruce) Douglass of Malvern, PA.
Also surviving are her grandchildren, Matthew C. Conner, Bellefonte, PA; Adam N. Conner, Tucson, AZ; Mitchell D. Brownley and Marshall D. Brownley, Myrtle Beach, SC; and Amy (Michael) Tedesco, Boalsburg, PA.
She loved being "Aunt Jean" to her many nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her grandson, Ryan J. Hinish.
Jean loved vacationing with her family. They enjoyed traveling to the beach and spending time in Myrtle Beach. She and Don spent many a night together with their dear friends and "poker club" playing cards and sharing laughs. Bunco was another game she enjoyed playing with her friends.
Jean will most be remembered for her sense of humor and outspoken wit. She had the gift of gab and would strike up conversation with anyone she could. She will be dearly missed. A memorial service is being held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 beginning 12:00 noon at the Grays Woods Church, 939 Grays Woods Boulevard, Port Matilda, PA. The family invites all who attend to join them afterwards for lunch and celebration of life in the Church foyer.
