My cousin Mike was a humble and gentle soul. He grew up on a nearby dairy farm with his two sisters, Nancy + Sally. He graduated with me as a State College ‘Little Lion’ in 1970 and a ‘Nittany Lion’ in 1974. He found lifelong love and companionship in his wife Diane and he found beauty in flowers that made their way into the homes of virtually every family in and around State College over the past 50 years. The impact of his career truly amazes me.
Most artists sign their works of art, but Mike signed his with the sensitive choices he made in bloom and color to help people celebrate birthdays and weddings; to cheer-on recovery from illness; and to help families grieve and heal. I mourn his departure from us yet will always be grateful for how he helped us all feel a little more cared for … and how he contributed to that special feeling we have that allows us to call our hometown, ‘Happy Valley’.

Working at Woodring's in the '80s was a blast and Mike was always so easy going it made working the long hours easier. We will always have fond memories of the "Spaghetti Feed" at camp. I don't know how we found our way in or back out of the mountain...but it was great fun! Our deepest sympathies to you Diane.

I was so fortunate to have met Mike and Diane 47 years ago at Woodrings florist and have counted them among my lifelong friends. I remember going with a group of friends (one a pilot) to their wedding in Baltimore by sharing the cost of the fuel to get there, and hitchhiking in from the airport. Over the years I’ve only had a chance to see them a few times but Mike has always stood out as a man who was generous, kind, calm and happy- it made me feel good to be with him. I will miss knowing he is there, with Diane, in Pennsylvania Furnace. Diane, I love you both. Kathleen
