Once in a generation a woman like Antoinette Fillhouer Holl enters the world. And, I got lucky to have her as my Mother for sixty years.
When I was child and then a teenager, Antoinette frequently reminded me that the world would rarely give me anything because I was handicapped/disabled. However, she also told me if I worked very hard and always strived to be perfect every once in a while society would let me come out of the shadows. And, she was right.
As Antoinette grew older she had a series of life threatening diseases. Over a span of 30 years she became more and more handicapped/disabled. Life taught her what it feels like to be handicapped/disabled. And, I believe she came to see me in a different light.
Toward the end of her life she constantly said to me, "You know, we have a special bond - we have been attached at the hip since the day you were born". And, when she spoke those words to me I knew she felt she got lucky to have me as her Daughter for sixty years.
