The youngest of four brothers, and the last to pass, our Uncle Dave was one of the kindest-hearted souls who ever lived. He was fiercely loyal to family and totally dedicated to Penn State, especially the wrestling program.
The Samuel Ishler (our grandfather's) farm has all but disappeared and is now merged into Boalsburg proper, but Dave's house (built by his older brother, Tom, in the mid-1950s) is still at the end of the old apple orchard immediately next to where Main Street meets PA-45 on its way to Shingletown. Our (Tom's) family moved away in 1962, and Dave and Diane have lived there ever since.
We spent many a summer visiting the farm, sometimes for extended periods, and Dave took great care that we (mostly) behaved and came to no harm. But we were all expected to help with chores around the farm as well, and we learned many lessons about life and being industrious along the way thanks to Dave and our grandparents.
We will miss you, Uncle Dave, for your dedication to family. Say "Hi" to Davey, Aunt Kay, our Dad, Uncle Sam, Uncle Jim, and to Grandma Mary and Grandpa Sam Ishler as well. We love you all.
