Edith was a very talented artist. She practiced her art with passion, dedication and incredible skill in the difficult medium of watercolor, giving pleasure to so many people who will enjoy her watercolors everyday. But besides being a professional artist she managed in her life to give of herself to others with the same dedication. She took care of all the needs of her family, and at the same time , for many years, was a teacher exposing young people to the many facets of creating a work of art.
It is at the McGuffey Art Center that I met and got to know Edith in person. I loved her joyous warm and giving personality, admired her willingness to be a leader and participate in all the organisation and demands of the Center, and of course discovered her immense talent. She was a "star' among all the artists, she will not be forgotten by all who knew her and now she has gone and shines in the light of all the stars in our universe.
May all the tributes to this warm friend and fellow artist give some comfort to her family and all those who were close to her in their lives.

I'm an old high school friend of Mike's, but before I ever knew him I first knew Mrs. Arbaugh as my 7th grade art teacher. She was truly one of the kindest and most genuine people I've ever known.

Twink was a beautiful person in so many way, in her art, as a kind neighbor and a fun person to be with, as a mother of some special children and as a dear friend. Cal and I are very sorry for your loss but very glad for the memories you have of your mom.

Edith was my art teacher in junior high school and it made a lasting impression on me. Later in life we shared studio space in McGuffey Art Center. I am now in my 40+ year as a career artist and I give her a lot of credit for that. Thanks to her and my condolences to the family.

To All of the Arbaughs,
I am so sad to read of your Mom's passing but it brought to mind the wonderful memories of our families together.
Football games, our parents' fun together, lovely visits to the Key West studio. My Mom, Pat Harrison, thought the world of your Mom. She admired her in so many ways, particularly her Art! I have one of her paintings that Mom gave me - I treasure it! All the best to you all in this difficult time. You are in my thoughts,
Sally Harrison Higgins

Sending lots of love to my family during this time. I have so many fond memories of my aunt Twinkle. Thanksgiving every year at the Arbaugh house was always the best -full of fun memories and family, and visiting during the summer in Charlottesville was magical for me as a child!
But, the smell of art supplies is perhaps my earliest memory of my aunt Twinkle -the smell of oil paints still brings her to mind. As a child, I had a huge fascination with the contents of the closet in the basement that contained drawings and other artwork she and my cousins had done. And she patiently indulged my curiosity one summer and let me pull them all out to look at. I remember visiting in Charlottesville another summer when she painted a portrait of my sister and me. We were probably 4 and 6 and had to sit still - when all we wanted to do was run around! So, she would paint us, and then let us run for a bit, but we had to return and sit again -a good compromise. Throughout the years she often taught me mini art lessons when I saw her or gave me good advice on a piece of art I was struggling with.
Since I live across the country now and can't visit as often as I'd like, it meant so much to me to be able to Zoom with her this past year so we could visit and share our artwork (thank you Fran). Twinkle's kindness and genuine love for art has certainly influenced me greatly, as a person and as an artist. I feel grateful to have been surrounded by her art and her love. I will miss her dearly.
Love to all who's lives she has touched. I know we will all miss her.

I spent many years across the hall from Edith at McGuffey Art Center. She had the best smile ---no wonder she was nicknamed Twinkle. When she left McGuffey we stayed in touch and I drove out to visit Edith and Jim often. I sometimes brought lunch, always brought books that I liked and thought they would too. Some of those years were very difficult and I was relieved when they moved into town at the Colonnades. We continued our visits until she moved.
I am smiling as I sit here here thinking of her. She and Joan S. were quite a McGuffey duo--sense of humor, amazing talent and big hearts and I loved "living" across the hall from them.
Her artwork hangs on my walls, and memories of her are in my heart and memory.

Edith was a wonderful friend and fellow renting artist at McGuffey Art Center. She was always in the middle if there was work to be done to help McGuffey thrive as a community. I watched her grow as an artist even though she was a wonderful artist from the start. I am so sorry for your loss and for all who knew and loved her. She was truely a gift to the Charlottesville art community!

Earl and I were saddened to read of Twinkle's death. We have seen Twink sitting like that after our numerous gatherings so that photo stirred many fun memories. Fortunately, we have a couple of her FRAGMENTS books and a large painting by her which we still love.
It is with joy that we send her on her way.

Mrs. Arbaugh was a treasure for so many students. She loved us (me) for all our youthful nonsense and potential. She made the world a safer place for us.

I am so sorry about Twinkle’s passing. We taught together and remained friends for many years. She was full of quiet grace and yet her laugh would bring smiles to all around her. I have many of her paintings which are always the first of my irreplaceable belongings to be evacuated pending hurricane arrival. How timely.

Oh how blessed I was to have Twinkle as a friend. She encouraged me as a new painter and had me to her studio. I loved seeing her tender care for her husband. She was generous and encouraging to me. She shared her passion for painting and taught me many things. I last saw her at the Colonnades where we did a pastel drawing together. Her kindness was immense and I am so glad I had her in my life. Thank you Linda and for sharing her with me.

Mrs. Arbaugh was my first art teacher when I was at Albemarle High School back in 1960. I was so disappointed the next year when she was on leave to have a baby (Fran) and I had instead a new teacher to frustrate. Many years later, I was teaching 6th grade science at McIntire Elementary school and discovered I was teaching Fran, who was sweet and smart, and it was very difficult to call her mother Edith…I’m pretty sure I called her Mrs. Arbaugh. I am at present; a Professor of Art at Randolph-Macon College and I stand on the shoulders of this wonderful lady who has represented the best that you be as an artist and a teacher. My love and condolences to her wonderful family and especially her children who know so well her beautiful spirit.
