Obituary of Norma Jean Barnoff
Norma Jean "Bam" Barnoff, 88, of State College, died peacefully with her family by her side on October 4, 2022.
Norma was born on October 11, 1933, in Curwensville PA, the fourth child of Edward and Theresa (Feola) Guglielmi.
Norma graduated from Curwensville High School, Class of 1951. After high school, she received a Cosmetology license in August, 1953 and worked with her sister Alliene Johnstone and sister-in-law Gloria Guglielmi at Arlon's Beauty Shop in Curwensville. Norma married Robert "Bob" Mark Barnoff on August 7, 1954, and moved to State College.
Norma dedicated her life to her immediate and extended family, helping her seven grandchildren in any way needed. The home that her father, an Italian stone mason, helped build was open to all her family. It was the central gathering place for family events. When she was blessed with great grandchildren, she was overjoyed to see another generation play in her home.
Norma enjoyed traveling to Italy to see her extended family in Isernia. She introduced her immediate family to her cousins in Italy and was elated watching them become friends, visit each other, and knowing the family connection would continue.
Norma loved her life in State College and her family's connection to Penn State. She was an enthusiastic Penn State football fan. Watching a football game with Norma was a cherished family event. Seeing all of her grandchildren graduate from Penn State made her both Penn State and family proud.
She loved planning and preparing family meals. Norma was renowned by family, neighbors, and friends for her meatballs and Scotcheroos. No family gathering or homecoming was complete without one, or both, on the table.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Barnoff; her parents; brother, Cosmo Guglielmi; and sister, Alliene Johnstone.
She is survived by her children, Joni Barnoff of State College, PA; Jan Barnoff (Bill Ritzman) of State College, PA; Mark Barnoff (Anita Borge) of State College, PA; Joe Barnoff (Tyrone Nichols) of Sunnyvale, CA; grandchildren, Kyle Barnoff; Joe Ritzman; Kendall Card; Theresa Ritzman; Kory (Elaine) Barnoff; Elise Warfield (Shreel Parikh); Adam Warfield; great grandchildren, Tad Card; Layla Card; Chance Card; Parker Barnoff; Shaan Parikh; and sister, Katherine Wolf.
At Norma's request there will be a private celebration of life for family members.
