In September 1967, a high-level group of ‘human factors’ scientists from the US Army Behavioral and Systems Research Laboratory (BESRL) was assigned to evaluate TOS, with emphasis on the man-machine interface. Jim Baker was chief of BESRL’s Command System Field Unit. Doug Mace and Jim McKendry rounded out his team. (Doug and Jim were actually with HRB-Singer, Inc. under contract to BESRL.) So now there were two ‘Three Amigos’ TOS evaluation units at Campbell Barracks. It would turn out that we would closely coordinate our scientific activities, and become much more cost-effective through this collaboration. We would all become good friends (except for McKendry who was okay but a bit aloof, not uncommon among PhD holders). These guys were all very smart. Much later on, McKendry would author a paper and graciously include me as one of the contributors: Application of a Method for Determining Information Requirements in a Field Army by James M. McKendry, Reese C. Wilson, Douglas H. Mace, and James D. Baker (Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences, August 1973). submitted by Reese
