Obituary of John Martin Stevens
John M. "Jack" Stevens, 82, of Boalsburg, PA, died on Friday, January 13, 2023 in Danville, Pennsylvania. Born on October 25, 1940 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Helen P. Lesko and John Stevens, both deceased. His wife of 57 years, Anne, survives.
Father to Marianne B. Stevens (State College, PA), Leigh (Christopher L.) Moul (Dover, PA) and Jill (Nick) Davidson (Portland, OR), who survive and the most amazing and dynamic "Poppa" that four grandchildren could ever have; Harry Stevens Ross, Todd Spencer Ross, Hayden Stevens Moul and Bailey Frances Moul. He will be eternally missed.
Jack is survived by his siblings; Helen Judith (George W.) Moyer (Ebensburg, PA), Leonard F. (Sandra) Stevens (Ebensburg, PA) and Andrew P. Lesko (Hilton Head, SC). He will be fondly remembered by his 9 nieces and nephews.
Jack was a 1958 graduate of Gallitzin High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps for 8 years, including one tour in Viet Nam as a Radio Intercept Officer flying 312 missions in the F-4 Phantom II. Before retiring with the rank of Captain, Jack was selected to work in Headquarters Marine Corp at the Pentagon. During his military service he received his BA in Liberal Arts from The Pennsylvania State University in 1964, his MS in Management from the United States Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA in 1969. Following his military career he received an MBA in Management from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1973 and his PhD in Management from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1976.
Jack Stevens was Emeritus Professor of Management and Organization, retiring as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs, and Director of Outreach in the Smeal College of Business ending a 33 year career at The Pennsylvania State University in 2009. He was recognized by the Academy of Management Journal as one of the ten most cited authors in the past forty years of the journal in 1997. Jack was particularly proud of his work with the Board of Visitors to establish a student initiated Smeal College Honor Code.
Jack was a member of the State College Elks Club, BPOE 1600 and served on the Harris Township Zoning Hearing Board for many years.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College, PA, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College, PA, Jackie Hook officiating. Final interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors, date and time to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The John M. & Anne B. Stevens Academic Integrity Award, Smeal College of Business, The Pennsylvania State University.
