I met Dr Axt in 1982 when deciding what university to attend. I decided to go to Penn State. He loaned me the book Topology by Munkres, but I did not read it as an undergraduate. I joined the scholars program and I he taught me vector calculus as a freshman. I visited his office a couple of times every semester and he always made time for me. In 1990, I returned to Penn State to study more math. Dr Axt taught me logic. He also did a 1 on 1 independent study course with me (Socratic Method) in Logic. Every few years I would see him in town -- I think usually at Barnes and Noble. I would always say hi. He is one of the main reasons I got a Ph.D. in math.
