My husband and I met Bill and Mary Jane at Penn State Women's Volleyball. We all had season tickets and they sat right behind us. It was always good to see them arrive and hear Mary Jane cheering! Bill even made it to some events this past season.
Bill was a quiet sweet man and he will be missed.

Bill's dedication and quiet caring manner were a gift to our Company, our Department, and our Village. I never saw him without that wry smile on his face; like he knew a great joke that he couldn't wait to share. As a Life Member, his dedication ranks in the highest level of commitment that one can give to the Fire Service. May he rest in eternal peace.
With deepest condolences,
Peter Flihan

How clever to have Bill’s photo of him in the Arboretum’s Bird House. He really did love the gardens. I will miss his dry sense of humor and grin. I always looked for him at Arboretum events. Bill always made me smile. Sending sympathy to his family. I know in time, they will share many happy memories of him.

Bill was my last tie to my childhood. We lived a block from each other, went to the same kindergarten, played together in the neighborhood and at Sunset View Park, and went to school together up to 11th grade when I went away. When we were 16 we drove to New York City in Bill’s two-door Chevy with two friends, stayed at the Y, and saw Broadway plays like Porgy and Bess, and Oklahoma. We worked for decades on opposite coasts and were out of touch, but in the last ten years I have enjoyed meeting him every summer when I returned to State College for visits. In the last year we have talked by phone often and reminisced about the neighborhood, friends, and adventures. I am going to truly miss this special friend from childhood.
