Obituary of Randall Graham Roseberry

Randall Graham Roseberry, 84, of State College, died Saturday evening, March 18, 2023, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Randy was born on September 10, 1938, in State College in the home of his parents, Stanley Nelson Roseberry Sr. and M. Kathryn Graham Roseberry. Stanley Roseberry was co-founder of the PeRo Ice Cream Company while Kathryn was a local artist who served on the committee that started the first Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. She was the daughter of George T. Graham the owner of Graham & Sons newsstand, a popular downtown hangout many years ago. Randy was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Roseberry Myers and brother Stanley N. "Mike" Roseberry, Jr.

Randy graduated State College High School in 1956 and followed with a bachelor's degree in Education from Penn State in 1960. He taught briefly at Chief Logan High School before marrying Donna Marie Bradley of Burnham, Pennsylvania on June 19, 1965. In addition to Donna, Randy is survived by his daughter, Laura Elizabeth Shutt of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania and his son, Stanley N. "Mike" Roseberry IV of State College. He was pleased to have been present for the births of four grandchildren; Jacob Morgan and Samuel Graham from Laura and her husband Joel (deceased) as well as Kathryn Cecilia and Owen Douglass from Mike and his wife Joan Finamore Roseberry. Randy also leaves three nieces that were dear to his heart, Janice Roseberry Merritt, Kathryn Roseberry Petersen and Margaret Myers Hueske.

Randy could never understand how anyone could remain sane in this world if they couldn't laugh at themselves. As a result, he was always able to find humor in a situation…even if it was inappropriate. For better or worse this character trait has been passed to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed many things but paramount were Penn State athletics, particularly football and wrestling, Broadway shows (as a teen he would drive to New York City to see shows during the Golden Age of Broadway) and gardening. Despite never leaving State College Randy needed to take trips, even small ones, every few months just to remind himself that the world outside of the Nittany Valley was equally entrancing. He also loved company, be it dinner parties or weekend guests, you could count yourself lucky if you ever had the pleasure of enjoying his hospitality. The entertaining went hand in hand with his love of cooking, be it elaborate meals for company or preparing the holiday dinners for his family. During the Christmas holiday, a favorite of his, he would fill the kitchen with multiple batches of cookies and sweets, a blessing or a curse depending on whether you were dieting or not.

Per Randy's wishes there will be no services and the interment of his ashes will be at the convenience of the family.
