NancyEllen Was a devoted wife and mother. In addition to her successes in those areas, she somehow found time to follow a large number of interests and produce a vast list of accomplishments. I didn't know how vast this list was until now, because she didn't brag about these accomplishments.
NancyEllen had a keen and infectious sense of humor. Her passing will leave a huge gap in the lives of those who knew and loved her. My heart goes out to Michael, Michaela, Ashley, and all the Kiernans.
We were totally devastated when I saw this.
Nancy Ellen went on many trips with us. I can't tell you how many but she was always ready to go and a very serious birder. Those that I remember were Alaska that Dave Kyler organized and the ones that I organized: Florida, Texas, California, winter trips to Cape Cod and Maine, Arizona. She would also meet me after conferences and our last was with a colleague of mine from Australia and his post-doc and she met us Palm Springs.
Here is a shot at the Salton Sea in 2006 and one on the Florida trip in 2010 with Nancy Ellen out in front with her scope.
I had no idea that she was so ill but knew that she couldn't run her WRS routes.
Our condolences to her family: Michael, Michaela and Ashley,
Deb and Greg Grove
