Obituary of Kenneth Dale Harpster

Type Obit HereKenneth Dale Harpster (Ken), 89, of State College, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023.

Born on January 23, 1934 in Pennsylvania Furnace, he was the son of the late Ira Harpster and the late Violet Harpster (Griffin).

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irene Harpster (Zakutney) of State College, PA. In addition, he is survived by sons Jeffrey Harpster (Susan) of State College, PA, Steven Harpster (Angie) of Frederick, MD, grandchildren Carolyn Rose Harpster of Brooklyn, NY and Kenneth Dale Harpster II of State College, PA. He is also survived by his sister Emeline (Lina) Hood (Lam) of State College, PA.

Ken worked for the Pennsylvania State University in Management Services for over 40 years.

Ken enjoyed many activities during his life that included daily walks where Ken and Irene could always be seen following their neighborhood paths, bowling, bridge and slow pitch softball (he was the pitcher).

Ken was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he spent many years assisting in the counting of the offerings.

Ken also devoted his free time to delivering Meals on Wheels and helping with Special Olympics during the summer athletic events at Penn State.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran church at 11:00 AM on Thursday May 4. The family will receive guests starting at 10:00 AM.
