Jan, it was an honor to know you for nearly 40 years and to work next to you for 10 years in Miami. You set the standard for making the MHC comprehensible to the general immunological community before the molecular era, providing sanity by purging all of the MHC subregions that did not really exist (e.g., I-C, I-J,etc). Your book, The Natural History of the MHC, will stand the test of time, especially for your lucid descriptions of the history of the field and the experiments carried out by the heroic pioneers such as Gorer, Snell, and Von Rood.
