Obituary of Samuel Elwood Homan
Samuel Elwood "Stick" Homan, 100, of State College, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at home.
Born June 29, 1922, in Ferguson Township, he was the son of the late Samuel A. and the late Margaret E. (Calvert) Homan. On October 17, 1946, in State College, he married L. Aileen Yingling, who preceded him in death on July 16, 2011.
He is survived by his children, Nancy Beck and her husband, John, of Archer, FL., Sue Lower and her husband, Ken, of Brockport, NY, Ellen Deno and her husband, Scott, of State College, Patti Barnes and her husband, David, of Dunnellon, FL., Samuel Homan and his wife, Carla, of Hope Sound, FL, Lois Zimmerman and her husband, John, of Bellefonte, Wayne Homan and his wife, Robin, of Pennsylvania Furnace, and Julie Fritz of Apache Junction, AZ.; eighteen grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren, and two step-great-great-grandchildren.. In addition to his parents and wife he was predeceased in death by one great-grandson, Kamran Barnes-Rajaee and two siblings, Mary Ellen Homan Kean and Franklin Earl Homan.
Samuel graduated from State College High School in 1940. He owned and operated Nine Oaks Farm in Pennsylvania Furnace.
He was a member of Centre Community Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Baileyville Grange, PA, County Farmland Trust, Experimental Aircraft Association, Nittany Antique Machinery Association, PA Flying Farmers, International Flying Farmers, PA Farmers Association, Allegheny Mountain region Antique Car Club and Cub Club (Piper Cub).
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 21, 2023, from 2-5pm and Monday, May 22 from 10-11am at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College.
Funeral will follow the second visitation on Monday, 22 at 11am at Koch Funeral Home with Bob White and Austin Homan officiating.
Burial will be in Graysville Cemetery.
