Obituary of Nancy Mitchell Cook
Nancy Mitchell Cook, 86, of State College, died Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Juniper Village at Brookline Wellspring Memory Care.
Born September 18, 1937, in Lemont, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and the late Eleanor Watkins Mitchell. On August 18, 1956, she married Donald J. Cook, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Martha D. Ney of State College, Tom Cook and his wife, Fay, of State College, Ellie Cook Chapman of Boalsburg, William Cook and his wife, Carol, of Cranberry Township; a son in-law, Mike Wagner of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Wagner on May 25, 2006 and two brothers, James and Steven Mitchell.
She was a 1955 graduate of State College Area High School. Nancy was a secretary for the Math Department at Penn State University, retiring in 1986, after 22 years of service.
Nancy was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, where she was an avid volunteer. She was honored to receive the Monsignor William M. Griffin Humanitarian Award.
She enjoyed running and competed in the Arts Festival and Boalsburg Memorial Days races for many years.
Memorial Mass will be at 11 am on Monday, September 25, 2023, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 867 Grays Woods Blvd, State College, with Father Jozef Kovacik officiating.
Burial will be in Grays Cemetery.
