Obituary of Janice Ann Curley

Janice Ann Curley, 90, of State College, died Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Born September 27, 1933, in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Celia Zagorski O'Connell. On July 28, 1956 she married Anthony J. Curley, who preceded her in death in 2005.

She is survived by five children, Joan Curley of State College; Catherine O'Keefe and her husband, Richard, of East Fishkill, NY; Joseph Curley and his wife, Sherri, of Portland, OR; Michael Curley and his wife, Nancy Dow, of Austin, TX; Christopher Curley and his wife, Kelly, of Durum, NC; two siblings, Sheila McFadden and her husband, Donald, of Dallas, PA and Hugh J. O'Connell of Kingston, PA. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Caroline Curley, John Curley, Meghan O'Keefe, Richard O'Keefe, Hannah Curley, Brendan Curley and Jonathan Curley. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles O'Connell.

Janice was a graduate of Myers High School. She received a Bachelor's degree from Misericordia College, Dallas, PA.

Prior to starting a family, she taught English and French to high school students in New Jersey.

Janice was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, where she taught Catechism and volunteered in the bereavement outreach. For more than twenty years, she was a volunteer at Centre Community Hospital and Mount Nittany Medical Center, where she supported the snack bar; and when she was no longer able to meet the physical demands of that service, she continued to assist the community providing comfort to patients waiting for diagnostic procedures. Janice was an avid reader, seamstress, enjoyed doing the NYT crossword puzzle, listening to music, and she was active in community civics.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m., on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., on Monday, October 2, 2023 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, with Father George Jakopac officiating.

Private burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, PA.
