Obituary of Susan Ellen Swartz
Susan Ellen Swartz, née Hazi, 75, of State College, died Saturday, October 7, 2023, peacefully at home with her sons.
Born April 2, 1948, in Sharpsville, she was the daughter of the late Frank Joseph and Joan Michalik Hazi.
She is survived by two children, Aaron Swartz of State College and Adam Swartz and his wife, Kathleen Morrow, of Pennsylvania Furnace; one brother, Paul Hazi and his wife, Elaine, of State College; a sister in-law, Rosalie Hazi of Mercer; five grandchildren: Zander Morrow and his wife, Rachel, of Simpson; Emma McLaughlin and Arthur, Emmitt and Penelope Swartz of Pennsylvania Furnace. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Hazi.
Susan received a bachelor's degree in education from Lock Haven University in 1970.
She retired from the State College Area School District as a Social Emotional Support Teacher.
Susan was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.
She enjoyed reading, shopping, cooking and baking (pies were the family favorite!) Susan was a music lover, particularly of folk rock, and was delighted to see Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin and Arlo Guthrie in concert. She treasured her collection of books and Boyds Bears. Susan was devoted to her family, and especially loved holiday celebrations and family gatherings, where she could share stories and indulge her grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m., on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, with Father George Jakopac officiating.
Burial will be in Graysville Cemetery.
