Obituary of Patricia Ann Machon

Patricia Ann (Pat) Machon, 86, of State College, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at home.

Born August 23, 1937, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Agnes Bricker Seguin. On August 30, 1958 she married Daniel Francis Machon Sr., who preceded her in death.

Also surviving are five children, Patricia Anne Thorwart and her husband, Mark, of State College, Judith Anne Machon (Peters) of State College, Ruthanne Machon of State College, Beth Anne Machon Kelley of State College and Rachel Anne Glyde and her husband, Drian, of Pittsburgh; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Machon Jr.; sister, Delores Bark; brother, Ed Seguin and son-in-law, Dennis Peters.

She was a 1955 graduate of J. W. Hallahan Catholic Girl's High School, in Philadelphia. Pat worked for HRB Singer (now Raytheon) as a Financial Planner, and for a time owned her own realty company, Strout Realty, based on Park Avenue in State College. Though she was a working woman, devoted wife and dedicated mother, Pat was also an artist in many ways. She was a gifted and talented ballerina and tap dancer, spending time with the Pennsylvania Ballet Company. This was not the only once in a lifetime creative arts experience you could have seen Pat performing at, as she also performed as a concert pianist and violinist in Philadelphia and sang with Sweet Adalines. You could also find Pat playing her harp or banjo, pastimes that would bring joy to those who witnessed her art. As fate would have it, Pat's love for music drew her to crowds enjoying tunes, and only a few days from finishing her studies at a nunnery, she met a drummer in a rock band named Daniel, and the rest was history.

Pat continued to fill her home with music, though as time went on it was music made by her many children and grandchildren. Pat valued her time spent with loved ones and the homes she created were ones that brought backyard memories and clever jokes and joy that could be found around the dinner tables. She was proud of the accomplishments of her family, and that pride could be found on a decorated sweater she made or right on her refrigerator door. She always had a strong and unwavering spirit, for those who knew her, knew of her stories of strength and resilience. She loved stories so much that you could always count on her to have read the newest and greatest books that were newly released. You could even find her reading the Harry Potter books right along with her grandchildren and then taking them to each film as they were released in theaters. She never stopped reading and getting lost in new worlds that were created by the authors whom she explored. Pat brought those magical moments and stories to life in her home, a home that was gathered in by her family and filled with the love and magic she would create.
