Obituary of Edward J. Janowsky
Edward Jack Janowsky, 90, of State College, PA passed away peacefully on November 12, 2023 at Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville PA.
Ed was born on May 20, 1933 in Elmira, NY; a son of the late Julius and Lillian (Reidy) Janowsky. On January 8, 1955, he married Joyce Hoobler and they were married 67 years and lovingly raised six children.
Ed was a 1952 graduate of Elmira Free Academy, Elmira NY.
Ed was a veteran of the U. S. Army, Infantry Division at Fort Dix, NJ and Fort Devens, Mass and proudly served during the Korean War.
Ed began his career at Corning Glass Works, Corning, NY in 1951 and transferred to the Corning Plant in State College, PA. In the late 70's, Edward was instrumental in training personnel for the television picture tube plant in Piaseczno, Poland. Edward and his family moved to Poland for 18 months and then returned to State College. He enjoyed his job as a Process Engineer, and hosting all his Corning Glass colleagues at Penn State football tailgates.
Ed enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and carpentry. He especially enjoyed family camping trips. After retirement, he volunteered as a supervisor for Habitat for Humanity. His neighbors and friends could always rely on Ed to lend a helping hand.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Joyce. He is survived by his children Cynthia Davis and her husband Stephen; Karen Pendell and her husband John; Mark Janowsky and his wife Carolyn; Deborah Friedman and her husband Steven; Michael Janowsky and his wife Yuki; and Matthew Janowsky and his wife Amy. He was the loving grandfather of fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Caroline Barron and her husband Donald; preceded in death by brothers Julius, Charles and sister Doris Janowsky.
Friends and family will be received at a Celebration of Life for both Joyce and Ed Janowsky at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College on Monday, December 11, 2023, from 1pm -2:30 pm followed by a brief service officiated by Pastor Keith Deal.
In memory of Ed, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Habitat for Humanity.
