Obituary of Barbara Anne Shevchik
Barbara Anne Shevchik, 86, of State College, PA passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday January 13th, 2024.
Barb was born on August 20th, 1937 in State College, PA to the late Geraldine and Robert Bohn. On September 30th, 1955 she married the love of her life, Robert Shevchik of Murrysville, PA who preceded her in death. They were married for 62 beautiful years and created countless memories together.
Barb is also preceded in death by her brother Donald Bohn of Riverview FL whose wife Carolyn still survives, and her daughter Renee Shevchik of State College, PA. She is survived by her brother Edward, of Atlanta, GA whose wife Lynda preceded him in death; her two children, Kim Clouser of State College, PA whose husband Jan preceded her in death, Mark Shevchik of Clearwater, FL, his wife Tamara and her son Graham D'Amico of St. Petersburg, FL; two grandchildren, Allen Clouser and fiancé Jen Bohlman of Bellefonte, PA, Andrea McGregor and husband Bruce of Bellefonte, PA, and two great-grandchildren whom she loved so dearly, Grayson and Lucy.
Barb was a 1955 graduate of State College Area High School. During high school, she met and fell in love with Robert ("Shev"), and shortly after graduating high school, she married Robert with whom she traveled all over the East Coast with his Marine Corps Career. It was an adventure for a storybook. When they lived in Oil City, PA not only did she and Shev own a hotel, but this is where her love for swimming skyrocketed. She was a swim instructor, and in the water is where she was the happiest. At their house in State College, PA they had an above-ground pool where she proudly taught her grandchildren to swim as well. Barb was proudly one of the first females to officiate at Penn State and Centre County swim meets. With her love of water, also came her love for the beach. She and her family traveled many times to Topsail Island, NC where you could always find her walking up and down the shoreline looking for seashells and shark's teeth.
Barb worked for Weis Market in State College for 36 years. She proudly retired to spend more time with her family. She happily spent time hunting, laughing and creating countless memories at Robert's family farm. She was proud of her grandchildren, but she gleamed with pride for her great-grandchildren who always kept her laughing. Barb will be remembered for her light-hearted sense of humor, generous heart, and genuine love for everyone.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday April 27th from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM at the Ferguson Township Lions Club in Pine Grove Mills, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Rising Hope Therapeutic Rising Center at 388 Reese Rd, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
