Obituary of Richard Eugene Franks
In Loving Memory of Richard (Dick) Eugene Franks
July 13, 1941 - February 15, 2024
Family and friends mourn the loss of Richard (Dick) Eugene Franks, 82, who peacefully passed away in the arms of his family on February 15, 2024, at UPMC Altoona Hospital. Born in Huntingdon to Robert and Dorothy Thompson Franks, Dick's life was a testament to the endearing bonds of family and his faith.
On September 4, 1965, Dick married the love of his life, Linda Marie Snook, and their union became the foundation of a life filled with love. He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Kathy Franks Fisher and Diane Franks Matter; her husband, Jeff; grandchildren Kylie Berry and her husband Andrew; Matthew Fisher; Jena Brent and her husband Travis; and Seth Matter and his wife Amanda. He was blessed to have six great-grandchildren: Haley, Kenlie, Kolby Rogers, Zain, Zayer Fisher, and Brynlee Matter. He had four siblings: Robert Franks and his wife Darla, Bonnie Stangl and her husband Fred, Duane Franks and his wife Lynne, and a sister-in-law, Carol Franks. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother Herb Franks.
A Bellefonte High School graduate and U.S. Air Force veteran, Dick was a West Penn Power supervisor who retired after 43 years of service. He was a member of Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church. His faith and love for family defined him. Dick found joy outdoors, cultivating his garden and sharing hunting adventures. He also loved riding his ATV and spending time at Rails to Trails. He wasn't one to sit still and always needed to keep busy. We always said to call Pap whenever anything needed to be fixed because Pap can fix anything.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org, a cause close to Dick's heart.
Services will be private, and he will be laid to rest in Zion Union Cemetery. In honoring Dick's memory, may we carry forward the cherished moments of family warmth that defined his remarkable life.
