Obituary of Nancy Jean Klaban
Nancy Jean (Weston) Klaban passed away Christmas night, Monday December 25, 2023, at Centre Care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William, on November 30, 201 4; two brothers, George (2018) and Lane (1944) KIA WWII.
Born March 12, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA, Nancy was the daughter of the late George Victor and Dorothy Lane Weston. She graduated from Wilkinsburg High School. She first attended Penn State Behrend Campus, followed by Penn State Main Campus where she met William H. Klaban Jr. and were married on January 14, 1950. When their young family began school, Nancy returned to Penn State and received her bachelor's in Elementary Education in 1 960, followed by her master's. Nancy taught in the State College Area School District for 30 years, first at Fraser Street Elementary followed by the Easterly Parkway Elementary School. Nancy's second career was in the fashion industry. She successfully became a representative for Carlisle designer clothing in Central Pennsylvania for over 25 years.
Nancy and her husband William were extremely dedicated to the Centre County community and proud to be members of the State College Presbyterian Church, Our Lady of Victory Church, the Elks Club, Centre Hills Country Club, Tussey Mountain Ski Club and many other organizations in the area. As a family, Nan & Bill loved to travel the United States, visiting all 50 states, either by tent or later i n their Airstream or BiII's plane.
She is survived by two children, Dr. Pamela Lane Shmid of San Cristobal, NM. and William H. Klaban III and his wife Amy, of State College; a sister, Mary Tucker of Verona, PA; grandson, Cameron Klaban (Tami) Klaban, of Bellefonte and a great- granddaughter, Eloise. She is also survived by exchange-student daughter Lydia Fawls, of Ireland and over 500 students she helped nurture during her career as a teacher. Nancy loved the beach especially spending time in the Caribbean, Ocean City, Md, Cape Cod and Fort Myers, FI.
Friends and family wiII be received from 10 a.m.until 12 p.m., Thursday April 4,2024 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St.,State College, PA. A Memorial service will follow at 12:00 with Celebrant Jackie Naginey Hook officiating.
lnterment will be in the Boalsburg Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
