What an amazing, well-lived life! I wish I had had the privilege of knowing Dot -- her legacy lives on in her daughters and ALL the many lives she touched.
After reading her obituary, I want to take stock of my own life and re-double my efforts to contribute to the world. Dot has inspired me.
Sending love as you grieve this parting and celebrate your blessing of Dot in your lives.

“Mothers never really die, they just keep the house up in the sky. They polish the sun by day and light the stars that shine at night, keep the moonbeams silvery bright and in the heavenly home above they wait to welcome those they love.” – Helen Steiner Rice
Grateful to have known such a beautiful, strong, elegant Lady that touched so many lives in the very best way.
A life well-lived!

I worked in the T.R. Dept. at Centre Crest and helped Mrs. Shemick arrange visits for her Vo-Tech Students. She taught by example, was stern, and so kind. Later, my son would become one of her first part time children at Children’s World.
What a ride, Mrs. Shemick!

When our family moved into Kingsbury Ct in 2008, Dot made us feel welcome. She would take a break from gardening to chat with us whenever she saw us pushing our new born daughter Candice's stroller by her place or when older Candice was drawing chalk or playing in front of Dot's place. Candice loved looking at sparkling crystals displayed in Dot's kitchen window. Dot also took an interest in Tint's south east Asia background, sharing with us her travel adventures. Our family feels very fortunate to have known Dot during her time in Alameda. She was always very positive and encouraging to our young daughter. We knew that she was a teacher and her passion for positively influencing the lives of younger individuals was always present! She definitely had a full life! We can still picture Dot happily working in her beautiful garden and enjoying the wonderful views of the estuary and Oakland skyline.

I was so lucky to have been friends with Dot. She was very outgoing and enjoyed being with people of all ages. Book club was one of her passions and she always contributed interesting insights to the conversation. She loved to laugh and was very humble about her accomplishments. She enjoyed traveling and I was so thankful that she shared some of her travel photography with me. I know how much her daughters and Tom loved her and I am very sorry for your loss. I cherish my memories and am glad I was her friend.

Dot was one-of-a-kind and a woman we looked forward to visiting with when she came to California. "Dot was loved by all whose lives she touched" really says so much about her. There's a lot to know about her full life experiences that I'm almost overwhelmed reading her obituary. What an inspiration. I know she will be missed by many of us.
