Obituary of Katherine M. Kissinger
Katherine M. Kissinger, also known as Kathy McAndrews, 83 of Boalsburg, died peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Katherine was born January 10, 1941, in Bellefonte Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Martin S. and Virginia Koch McAndrews. Kathy graduated from high school in 1959. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 1963 from Taylor University in Indiana. Upon graduation from Taylor she began her teaching career in New Jersey. She saved money to pay for her one year Master's Degree in Counseling from Penn State, earned in 1965. For many years Katherine worked as an elementary counselor for the State College Area School District. She was a strong advocate for children and thoroughly enjoyed helping children and families.
Katherine was an antique enthusiast so much so that she donated antiques to the Boalsburg Heritage Museum (Grandma Sweet's house). She had a skilled eye for design and color. Katherine built an extensive library around her interests and attended conferences to further her knowledge.
As a member of the State College Presbyterian Church, she was an active member of Stephen's Ministry; her desire to help people was a lifelong theme. In later years, Kathy attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Kathy spent many summers up at Mt. Lake Christian Camp volunteering as a counselor. She took her children with her to Mt.
