Wow Mike such a shock when Phil called to tell us. Earl and I first met you in 1976 at Tech. Was a special time. Also remembering us helping you move to Penn State. Earl driving the truck with your stuff. Sorry we only got to visit your home once but had a great visit. Loved having you come by our place in Washington and stacking grass hay for our horses. Telling us about your sister. Remembering deciding to go to a retirement party for a secretary we had known while at WSU and while there heard a voice behind me and knowing it was you but no idea why you would be there. The time you were doing a sabbatical at WSU and we did not know. Will miss your yearly Xmas cards with all the news. Earl loved seeing you in Blacksburg a few months ago. Thanks for all the memories. Mike was always a willing volunteer in the State College Kiwanis Club's service projects and fund raisers advancing the Kiwanis moto of "making the world a better place, one child and one community at a time". You will be missed, Mike. Jerry Wettstone

Uncle Mike was a person you could talk to about so many things. I will cherish the memories made in Tennessee when he would visit my Mom, his sister Ann. He enjoyed his time with them and especially going to Cades Cove for a hike. He will be truly missed by me and my family.
Love you, Uncle Mike

I will always fondly remember the summers when cousin Mike and his mother Aunt Margaret would travel back to the Illinois farm of his grandparents Pop and Grandma Bowen. He eagerly joined in on our "pick-up" softball games at our family get togethers. And he totally loved spending time with us at the local county fairs where many of us showed our 4-H project livestock, No doubt that experience was the primary reason he majored in Animal Science with graduate degrees in Dairy and Animal Science and made his career teaching and doing research at Penn State.
RIP cousin. We will miss you.

Heartbroken to discover my godfather and cousin Michael has passed. I find solace in the memories of his kindness and selflessness. A true hero in my immediate family. Michael touched the lives of many, especially the younger generation of the family, with his compassion. Michael wrote many letters to my brother during his time in Vietnam. We loved getting them . Later in life, his steadfast support during my mother's battle with Alzheimer's. His words, “I always loved Marie ❤️.” This is how I think of you Michael. God love you.

Mike: I will miss our texts. I’m sure my Mom appreciated you keeping watch over her family for her. You were truly a class act!! I’m going to miss you but I will see you again someday. Rest easy cousin

Oh Mike- Simply not enough...Not enough time, insufficient stories, meals and visits left undone. Painting with you gleaned the meaning of the word "holiday"...as in, 'you missed a spot, you took a holiday, I'd have to ride by fast on a motorcycle to miss that.' You were a gem of a guy, and I have a Mike shaped void in mine.
May the road rise up...

Mike and I shared a few things, being early birds at work, completing our graduate degrees at Virginia Tech, and growing up in and enjoying New England. There were other things that I'll never come close to matching, his sharp wit, his love for and skills at basketball, his focus. I'll miss Mike's visits to my office with interesting questions and his coordination of our March Madness pool. My condolences to his family and friends and the many that probably knew him better than I... I will try to carry some of Mike forward in my interactions with the world.

I, with many others, will miss Mike. Unique in his abilities in interaction with people, both personally and professionally, making each feel special. The break on our once a month coffee sessions will only make his loss more evident. I send thoughts to his extended family as they were special to him. As reflected in the trip he took with them to family landmarks in NE USA last summer.
