Obituary of Frank William Schmidt

Frank William Schmidt, 95, of State College, peacefully passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Born March 16, 1929, in Madison, WI, he was the son of the late Raymond Carl and Elizabeth Pescher Schmidt. On June 26, 1954 he married Mary Cherney, who preceded him in death in October 2021.

He is survived by four children (Gregory Schmidt and Sherri Borreson of Phillipston, MA, David Schmidt and his wife Jane Hardy of Louisville, KY, Catherine S. Snyder and her husband Robert Snyder of McConnellsburg, PA, and Mark Schmidt and his wife Mary G. Schmidt of Niskayuna, NY; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Frank served in the United States Air Force. He was awarded a Doctorate degree from the University of Wisconsin and was a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Penn State (1962-2002). He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in State College and a loyal supporter of the Catholic Campus Ministry at Penn State and the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, State College.

Frank enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Mary in both professional and private capacities, being active outdoors and supporting his profession through ASME Heat Transfer Division Leadership and community volunteer activities.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Victory, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 am with Father Matthew Laffey officiating. Interment will be at Center County Memorial Park following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank's name to St. Vincent DePaul, State College.
