Obituary of Peter Herncane Jr.

Peter E Herncane Jr. passed away Sunday morning, July 7. He had Metastatic Melanoma. He passed peacefully at home with his family beside him. Born June 7, 1966 in Hammond, Indiana, he is the son of Maryanne and Peter Herncane of Altoona, PA. He is survived by his wife, Heather (nee Jones), whom he married on June 14, 2008. They were married for 16 years. He is also survived by three children: Dylan, Ethan John and Madelyn, also of State College; his brother Andrew and his wife Jennifer, and their children Emily and Abbie of Altoona; and his Uncle John Letscher and Aunt Connie Letscher, both of Altoona. He is predeceased by his younger brother John Michael. He also leaves many other family and close friends. Pete was in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany when the wall came down. For 20 years, most of his adult career, Pete was an executive chef at several local State College restaurants producing amazing entrees and running kitchens like everyone was family. For the past eight years he worked at Penn State. Peter loved the great outdoors and he loved his family. Being with his family was his greatest joy. To know Pete was to want to impress him and enjoy him. He was a respectable and honorable man. He is so missed. Please come say goodbye with his family from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m, Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm with Evelyn Wald, LPC officiating. Burial will be on Thursday, July 11 at 2:30pm at the Rose Hill Cemetery Company, 501 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, followed by a memorial gathering at the family home in Sinking Valley. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
