Obituary of Marjorie Manning
Marjorie R. Manning, 86, of State College, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 in The Atrium at The Village at Penn State. She was born at home (during a blizzard) in Willow Street, PA on February 10, 1926, a daughter of the late Albert W. and Lily Mitchell Rex. She was a 1947 graduate of Penn State with a degree in Music Education. Marge played French horn in the Blue Band during the war years when women were also included in the band that played for football games. She was married (during an ice storm) on December 21, 1947 to Robert E. Manning, who survives. She is survived by her four children: Barbara M. Culp and her husband, Burrell, of Madison, OH; James M. Manning and his wife, Sandra, of Fairbanks, AK; Marilyn M. Lutz and her husband, Earlin, of West Chester, PA; Richard A. Manning and his partner, Cathy DeWolfe, of Boalsburg; three sisters: Elizabeth Everhart, of Denver, PA; Beatrice Kuehner, of Lititz, PA; Martha Baldwin, of Tucson, AZ; four granddaughters, five grandsons, and one great-grandson. Marge was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church where she directed the children's choirs and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a founding member of the Nittany Valley Symphony and the State College Municipal Band. A Memorial Service will be held at the State College Presbyterian Church on Sunday, April 15 at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Joel Blunk officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert and Marjorie Manning Fund at the Centre County Community Foundation PO box 648 State College 16804 or the charity of your choice.
