Obituary of Charles Wingert
Charles H. Wingert, Jr. M.D., 78, of Bellefonte, died Sunday, January 23, 2011, at Hershey Medical Center.
Born February 29, 1932, in Brookville, he was a son of the late Charles H. Wingert Sr. and Gertrude Day Wingert. On June 25, 1955, he married Margaret "Peggy" McGovern, who survives at home.
He is also survived by two sons, Terry L. Wingert and his wife, Kim of Lititz, and Jeff Wingert and his wife, Amy of State College; five grandchildren, Chase, Allison E. and Lydia Wingert and Allison P. and Collin Wingert and a sister, Liz Utkov of Mt. Dora, Florida.
He was a 1950 graduate of Brookville High School. He graduated from Penn State in 1954 with a Bachelor's in Premedicine. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Wingert served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1960. Upon returning to civilian life, he completed his residency in Dermatology at Geisinger Medical Center from 1960 to 1963.
Dr. Wingert maintained a private practice in Dermatology in State College for 25 years, retiring in July 1989.
He was a member of the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church, and the American Academy of Dermatology. He was a life member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #1600, State College. He enjoyed fishing in the Florida Keys and hunting.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Friday, January 28, at the funeral home with Pastor Thomas M. Osif officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
