Obituary of Jeanne Pierce
Jeanne L. Pierce of the Village at Penn State died on Monday, October 15 at the Atrium.
Jeanne was born May 5, l934 in New Rochelle, N.Y. She was the third child of the late Simone and Leonard P. Larrabee, Sr.
Jeanne was educated in the New Rochelle public schools graduating from New Rochelle High School in 1952. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1956 and received a MS degree in Economics from Yale University in 1958. On Dec. 20, l958 she married Percy E. Pierce in New Rochelle, NY.
She is survived by her husband Percy E. Pierce; three daughters Barbara Mysona and husband Ronald of Evans, GA; Elizabeth Pierce of Little Rock, AR; Caroline Pierce of State College, PA; a son William Pierce and wife Mary Ann of Hollywood, MD; four grandsons Joshua Mysona, David Mysona, Jonathan Mysona, Christopher Pierce; a granddaughter Sarah Pierce; and a brother Leonard P. Larrabee.
She was a homemaker and moved with her husband from Cleveland to Pittsburgh to retirement at The Village at Penn State Retirement Community.
She played tennis in high school and college and continued to play tennis while raising a family. When she moved to Pittsburgh in 1969, she continued her interest in tennis and became a tennis professional. Jeanne was a member of the USPTA and taught tennis at various locations in western Pennsylvania including Camp Deer Creek, the Gateway Swim Club, the Washington Plaza Apts., and the Monroeville Racquet Club. Jeanne participated in many western Pennsylvania singles and doubles tournaments and was highly ranked in both divisions. She gave up competitive tennis in 1989 after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
Vacationing in Maine at the family cottage on Bustins Island was her favorite pastime. She spent summer vacations there since she was three years old and continued to do so with family after her marriage.
Friends will be received at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, PA 16801 on Saturday, October 20 from 9:30 until 10:30. The funeral Service will follow at 10:30 in the funeral home.
