Obituary of Philip Hallock

Philip F. Hallock, 99, of State College, died Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born January 6, 1914 in Wellsboro, he was the son of the late Frederick and Bertha Hallock. He was married to the former Florence "Kitty" Franks, who is predeceased. He was a world traveler with Kitty, having visited, among others: the British Isles, Europe, the Soviet Union, Africa and Japan. He especially loved his trips with Kitty to Oahu, Hawaii, where they owned an apartment. He is survived by his son, Hal Hallock and his wife, Natalie, of State College; three grandchildren, Troy Hallock and his wife, Dawn, of Reedsville, Toie Lewis and her husband, Mike, of Reedsville and Rachel Lawrence and her husband, Tyrone, of Seattle, WA.; Five great-grandchildren, Cory Carvalho and his wife, Heidi, of Punta Gorda, FL., Ashley Hallock of North McClure, Tyrone Lawrence Jr. of Seattle, WA., Tiffany Lawrence of Seattle, WA., and Isaac Hallock of Reedsville; one nephew, Robert Hallock of Massachusetts. Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Val Hallock and his brother, Robert Hallock. Phil enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He was an accomplished bowler, having received many trophies and awards from the State College and Bellefonte Retirees Leagues. He earned his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Architecture from Penn State University. He was a Professor for the Department of Architecture at Penn State University and Acting Head of the Department. At Taliesin, Spring Green, Wisconsin, after reviewing his Working Drawings for the William Moorehouse home in Lancaster, Frank Lloyd Wright invited him to join his fellowship. Among his many local architectural projects, he designed the "new" wing and social hall of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy during WWII, stationed in Washington, Anacostia Navy Air Station, Photo Intelligence and the Adak Navy Base in the Aleutian Islands. Phil served on the State College Borough Council, the Borough Water Authority Board, Building and Housing Board of Appeals, Council of Governments Housing Board and the Centre Community Hospital Board. Visitation will be 6-8p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the funeral home, with the Captains Charles and Patricia Niedermyer officiating. Burial will be in Greenlee Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 2603 East College Ave, Suite G State College, PA 16801. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
