Obituary of John Madore
John Robert Madore , "Jack," died surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 25, 2013. Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Wolfe Madore, whom he married on May 20, 2000.
Born on June 15, 1934 in Uniontown, Jack was the son of John S. and Mary E. (Stuby) Madore. On October 6, 1962 he married Janie Patton Morgan, who preceded him in death on April 4, 1998.
In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by a son, Robert Scott Madore, and his wife, Lisa of Pittsburgh, a daughter, Melinda Ann Davis, and her husband Chris of Media; and by his daughter-in-law, Patricia Davey Madore of State College. Patty's husband and Jack's son, Richard Morgan Madore died suddenly in January of 2010. Others in Jack's immediate family are his two sisters: Anna Lee Smith (James B.) of State College and Mary Belle Mitten (Hurst) of Endicott, NY.
Jack was known as "Papa" to his eleven grandchildren. McKenzie Lynn Madore, Madison Ann Madore, and Andrew Davey Madore are the children of Rick and Patty Madore. Robert John Madore, Matthew Patton Madore, Kristen Marie Madore, Kyle Richard Madore, and Ryan Scott Madore are the children of Rob and Lisa Madore. Katherine Jane Davis, Howard Benjamin Davis, and John Patton Davis are the children of Mindy and Chris Davis.
Jack was a 1953 graduate of State College Area High School. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Penn State in 1957. After graduation, Jack served for two years in the United States Army; he was stationed in France. When he returned, Jack went to work for State College United Federal Savings and Loan (now PNC), which his father, John S. Madore founded. Jack held various positions within the bank until his retirement in 1989. After retirement, Jack was active in the Centre County Republican Party, serving as their Chairman in the 1990s. He was known for detail-oriented event planning and was often in charge of the annual Lincoln Day Dinner.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for over sixty years. After Janie died in 1998, Jack began to cook for the first time in his life. He developed quite a repertoire, and after marrying Janet, together they enjoyed hosting dinner parties. His specialty was Prime Rib, with Janet's cherry pie for dessert.
Jack liked to surprise friends and neighbors by placing gifts of whoopee pies, fresh peaches, and corn on their doorsteps. If he found himself behind a Penn State student in line at the store, he would often spontaneously offer to pay for their groceries. The family is grateful for Jack's many faithful friends who spent time visiting with him over the last year. The family has also been blessed by the support of the Body of Christ, and by their church home, St. Paul's United Methodist. He loved music; Jack and Janet's study group frequently gathered to serenade him with favorite hymns. In fact, hours before he died, this group was around his bedside singing "Amazing Grace."
The family also wishes to thank those who provided care for Jack at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, The Fairways, and most recently at home.
