Obituary of Andrew Kondash

Andrew "Drew" DeMetro Kondash, 53, of State College, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born May 14, 1959, in Bridgeport, CT, he was a son of the late DeMetro and Michelina Kondash. Drew is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 27 years, the former Donna Koper, and his two beloved sons, Andrew John and Joseph DeMetro. He will be missed by two surviving brothers and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Visitation will be on Friday, April 12, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, State College, followed by a funeral service on Saturday, April 13, at 11 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church, University Drive, State College. Memorial contributions may be made to the Assembly of God Benevolence Fund. A 1977 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Drew went on to attend Penn State University. After college he and his brother Mike founded Tiffany at the Grinder, Tiffany Deli and Catering, and Nittany Catering, all in State College. Drew attended Assemby of God Church, where he became certified in Red Cross Shelter relief and taught cooking classes. His love of cooking led him to prepare soup and meals for those in need and he could always be found putting his culinary skills to work in various fundraising efforts including the one dearest to his heart, Project Haiti at Penn State University. He enjoyed sharing his talents on campus where he loved to cater for various PSU sports teams. After his kidney transplant in 2007 he participated in olympic-style games for transplant recipients and donors. Drew was always willing to lend a helping hand and was loved by those whose lives he touched. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
