Obituary of Vonda Mallon
Vonda Jenkins (nee Oliver) Mallon, age 86 of Stage College, PA, passed away May 6, 2013. Funeral will be Friday, May 10 at 12PM, visitation prior to service at 11AM at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO. Burial at Floral Hills Cemetery to follow. Vonda was born Febr. 6, 1927 in Byron, AR. She married Robert Clifford Oliver in 1946. She later married Albert Leo Mallon in 1971. She worked for the Greenlease Motor Company (1951-1959), Kansas City Board of Education (1959-1962), and VFW Headquarters in Kansas City, MO (1962-1991). She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Gainesville, FL; was a previous member of the Kansas City Baptist Temple & Armour Heights Baptist Church, KCMO. She was a former member & president of the Kansas City Tiara chapter of the American Business Women's Association and a longtime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Vonda is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Allie Jenkins; sisters Thelmarie Franks, Ione Jenkins, & Infant Glenda; brother Bobby Joe Jenkins; and husbands Robert Clifford Oliver & Albert Leo Mallon. Vonda is survived by her daughter Barbara Oliver Korner (James) of State College, PA; brother Glendel Jenkins of Excelsior Springs, MO; sister Wanda Jenkins of St. Joseph, MO; sister-in-laws Wilma Jenkins & Cora Sanders; nieces & nephews Carolyn Durham, Terri Winningham, Stephanie Hammack, Rhonda Haden, Kenneth Sanders, & Janet Honchell; and 6 great-nieces & nephews. Vonda Mallon lived a life that demonstrated faith, hope, and love as a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend. Through a life of service both in her church work and for nearly 30 years working with payroll and benefits at the National Headquarters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, she provided solace, training, counsel, and assistance to employees and others. She spent decades as an elementary Sunday School teacher and in church kitchens helping children and others to see her faith at work. Her humor and laughter instilled hope in the midst of adversity. Most of all, her ways of caring for her family, the elderly, and the ill demonstrated a life of love.
