Obituary of Mary Hines
Mary Halsey Hines, 83, of State College, known to many as "Aunt Mary" died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at home. Born August 7, 1929, in Trenton NJ, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Helen Howarth Hines.
She is survived by one sister, Ellen J. Nagy and her husband, Carl, of State College; one brother, Edward E. Hines and his wife, Ginger, of West Melbourne, FL.; many beloved nieces and nephews to whom she was devoted, including Mel Caswell and her husband, Dave, and their children, Michael and Meghan, and Eileen Peachey and her children, Ryan and Rachel, all of State College. She was preceded in death by one sister, Janet Gunzenhauser.
Mary was a 1947 graduate of Trenton High School. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Rider College in 1950. She was an elementary school teacher in the Trenton School District for 27 years. She was a long-time member of the Central Jersey Genealogy Club.
Mary is remembered fondly by several generations of former students for her kindness, patience, and dedication. She has also served as the glue that holds together her extended family, keeping up connections, documenting notable activities with her movie cameras, and maintaining a strong sense of family.
A special thank you is extended to Mary's devoted caregiver for the last several years, Kim Goedert of State College, and to Dr. Kristen Grine and her staff for their faithful and caring medical services. Funeral arrangements are being made by the family and will be held in Trenton, NJ. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Trenton, NJ.
