Obituary of Eleanor Rose
Eleanor Rose, a twenty-year resident of State College, formerly of LaGrange Park, IL, and Fallbrook, CA, passed away peacefully at The Inn at Brookline on May 30, forty-five days before her 100th birthday.
Eleanor was a loving wife, mother, aunt, nana, and "G.G." She enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, and needlework. Jazz and big band music always brought her joy, and due to her Scottish heritage, she found the music of bagpipes beautiful. After moving to State College, she loved volunteering at the State College Women's Club Thrift Shop. Until the last few years, she was an avid traveler. Her many friendships with the residents and staff at The Inn, where she lived for five years, meant a lot to her.
She is survived by three children, Elizabeth (Murry) Nelson of State College; Susan (John) Sagendorf of Cobleskill, NY; and James Rose, of Jacksonville, FL; her sister, Jean Black of Sonoma, CA; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Todd) Remaley of Burkittsville, MD; Daniel Nelson (Amanda Merwine) of Philadelphia; Christopher (Flavie) Rose of Chicago; Ian Rose (Cassie Cipriani) of Chicago; and three step grandchildren, Jennifer Switzer, Daniel (Ann) Sagendorf; and Mathew (Joleen) Sagendorf. Additional surviving family includes two great-grandchildren, Nadia Remaley and Nikolai Remaley; nine step great-grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews, and her former daughter-in-law Corrine Rose.
Preceding her in death were her husband William E. Rose and her son William A. Rose, her brother John S. Robertson, and her sister Patricia Lewis.
Friends and family will be received Saturday, June 8, at 2:30 to 3:30 in the Windsong Dining Room at Brookline. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 West Station Square Drive, Suite 1900, Pittsburgh, PA 15219..
