Obituary of Ruth Dreibelbis
Ruth Herman Dreibelbis, 106, of State College, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Fairways at Brookline Village, State College.
Born September 1, 1906, in Benner Township, she was the daughter of the late A. Miller and Annabelle Fleck Herman. On September 17, 1927, she married Bruce E. Dreibelbis, who preceded her in death on February 22, 1973.
She is survived by five children, Jack H. and his wife, Miriam, of Camp Hill, Donald A. and his wife, Wanita, of State College, Galen E. and his wife, Nancy, of State College, June D. Rudy and her husband, John, of Mansfield and Dean E. and his wife, Linda, of Pennsylvania Furnace; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Ruth was the last surviving of eleven children. She was preceded in death by one grandson, John Paul "JP" Rudy.
She attended State College High School.
Ruth worked on the family farm with her husband in Ferguson Township and as a Telephone Operator for Penn State University for 25 years.
She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ for 86 years.
Ruth volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Mount Nittany Medical Center and she was one of the first volunteer cooks at the Ferguson Township Elementary School. She voted for 50 straight years.
She vividly remembered her first ride in a horseless carriage and the Goodyear Blimp. She remembered adult's talking about the sinking of the Titanic and her first sighting of an airplane.
Visitation will be 1 until 3 p.m. and 5 until 7 p.m., on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2013 at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 1795 West College Avenue, State College, with the Reverend Charles Fitzgerald and Reverend Dr. Harry Covert officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery.
