Obituary of Theodore Houtz
Theodore S. "Ted" Houtz, 81, of State College, died Thursday, July 4, 2013, at his residence. Born August 12, 1931, he was the son of the late Roy A. and Floda Stover Houtz. On August 10, 1957, he married Florence "Flo" Laird, who survives. Also surviving is one son, Jeffrey Houtz and his wife, Patty, of Port Matilda; two sisters and one brother, Donna Burke of State College, Rodger Houtz and his wife, Fawn, of State College and Virginia Harpster and her husband, William, of Warriors Mark; his favorite great-great nephews, Bryce Fisher and Ryan Fraley, of Pine Grove Mills and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Dustin Houtz and one sister, Gail De Haas. He was a 1949 graduate of State College High School. Ted served in the United States Army during the Korea Conflict. He was employed by the State College Borough Water Authority for 26 years, retiring 0ctober 1, 1993, as a Distribution Foreman. He was a lifetime member of the Houserville UMC House of Hope where he was a trustee, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and served on the administration board. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers organization, the State College American Legion, the Sons of American Revolution and president of the Houserville Cemetery Association. Ted enjoyed attending the Grange Fair, camping and hunting, meeting his friends at Eat and Park for breakfast and spending time with his family. Visitation will be 6 until 8 p.m., Monday, July 8, 2013 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Houserville UMC House of Hope, 1320 Houserville Road, State College, with the Reverend Renee Ford officiating. Burial will be in Houserville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Houserville UMC House of Hope, 1320 Houserville Road, State College, PA 16801.
