Obituary of John Auman

John Jacob Auman, 85, of State College, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at his residence. Born July 24, 1927, in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Leonard F. and Barbara K. Sweiger Auman. On December 6, 1986 he married Dorothy L. Weaver, who survives. Also surviving are four step-children, Robin Reilly Beaujon and her husband, David, of Canaan, CT., Beth Reilly Martin and her husband, Jim, of Stevens, Patrick Reilly and his wife, Catherine, of Fairfield and Kelly Reilly Kaminski and her husband, Christopher, of State College; one sister, Mary Steele and her husband William, of Marshfield, MA.; Eight grandchildren, Tyler and Alyson Beaujon, Aaron and Amelia Reilly, Carly and Kyle Martin, Shay and Morgan Kaminski; two great-grandchildren, Caydence Sheehan and Caleb Topper Reilly. Upon graduation from the Niagara Falls High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. John proudly served our country, serving two years of active duty and five years of reserve duty. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Muhlenberg College in 1952. John spent much of his professional career with the Boy Scouts of America. He joined the Professional Services Division in 1953 as a District Executive serving in Washington DC. Later he served the Pittsburgh Council Staff as the Director of Camping for six years, then he joined the staff of the Hutchinson River Council in New Rochelle, NY. For six years he was the general manager of Fort Ticonderoga, Ticonderoga, NY. John returned to serve the Boy Scouts as the Director in Heidelberg, Germany. Following three years in Europe, he returned to the United States and became a member of the New England regional Staff serving in various area Director Positions until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League, the American Legion and F & A Masonic Lodge 700, all of State College. Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. Private services and burial will be held at the Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico, Virginia. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
