Obituary of Howard Triebold Jr.

Howard O. "Buzz" Triebold, Jr., 82, of Niceville, FL., formerly of State College, died Thursday, August 8, 2013, at his residence. Born February 26, 1931, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Howard O. and Louise Korfhage Triebold, Sr. On December 20, 1952, he married Anne Dreibelbis, who preceded him in death in on October 8, 1993. On May 25, 1997, he married Marlene "Myke" Knerr Atwater, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Sharon Triebold of Niceville, FL., Howard O. Triebold III and his wife, Marsha, of Navarre, FL., Steve Triebold and his wife, Dottie, of State College and Kathi Stone and her husband, John, of Rochester, NY.; three step-children, Scott Atwater and his partner Joanne Peterson, of Charlestown, MD., Laura Atwater and her husband, Gregg Ehrlacher, of Allentown and Katie Atwater of Destin, FL.; fourteen grandchildren, David Bolon, Michelle Whitfield, Lori Ismay, Teresa Daigle, Tucker and Brandi Triebold, Annie, Emma, Johnny, Hannah, Thomas and Abigail Stone, Anna Rose and Jackson Ehrlacher; two great-grandchildren, Wesley Whitfield and Lucas Ismay. He was a 1949 graduate of State College High School. He was Class President, ran track and played baseball and football. He is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University. Buzz worked his way through college as a long haul truck driver for Shoemaker Trucking. Retiring after more than 40 years as the Director of Environmental Health and Safety for Penn State University, he also developed the Beaver Stadium emergency medical squad which he directed for 38 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, serving as head usher as well as other church committees. He was a member of the National Campus Safety Association, where he served as National President for two terms, a 34 year member of the State College Chapter of the American Red Cross, where he served as Chapter Chairman, Director, and on the executive Committee. Buzz was one of the original EMT Instructors. He was a charter member and Instructor for the Pennsylvania Association of Arson Investigators, Investigator and Instructor for the PA State Police Fire Marshals Division. A 60 year member of Lodge 700 F&AM State College, he received his 60 year pin in the fall of 2012. He was a Safety and First Aid merit badge counselor and Advancement Chairman for the State College Boy Scout Troop 31, a member of the Pine Grove Men's Chorus and a lifelong member of the White Deer Road and Gun Club. Buzz was a devoted exercise enthusiast while at Penn State and later on a Charter Member of the Bluewater Fitness Club in Niceville, FL. until his death. Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m., on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. An additional visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m., on Friday, August 16, 2013, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 109 McAllister Street, State College, with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., with the Reverend Eric Shafer and the Reverend Dr. Donald Shover officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Anne Triebold Choir Scholarship Fund, care of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 109 McAllister Street, State College, PA 16801.
