Obituary of Herbert Rader

Herbert A. "Tony" Rader, 80, of State College, died Friday, August 9, 2013, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born June 2, 1933, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Herbert and Pansy Myers Rader. On April 28, 1973 he married Shirley Corl, who survives. He is also survived by three children; Stephen A. Drew and his wife, Vicki, of Plano, TX, Jacqueline K. Updike and her husband, Ralph, of Herndon, VA, Pamela J. Tressler and her husband, Tim, of Lewistown and seven grandchildren; Kyle, Nathan and Justin Drew, Ian and Allison Updike and Christopher and Jenna Tressler. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Rader. He graduated in 1951 from the Germantown Academy in Philadelphia. On May 8, 1953 he entered active service with the United States Marine Corps where he served in California and Hawaii. He received the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Metal. In 1958 he graduated from Penn State University. He was employed by the Penn State Department of Mechanical Engineering. Tony was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in State College. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Wall officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church at Foster Ave and Frasier St. State College, PA 16801 or charity of the donor's choice.
