Obituary of Hannah Stover Hoy
Surrounded by family, Hannah "Eleanor" Stover Hoy, 97, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. She was born on December 20, 1915 in Ferguson Township, the daughter of the late Naomi Stover Poorman and Charles E. Stover. On September 22, 1936, she married John Russel Hoy who, after 62 years of marriage, preceded her in death on March 1, 1999. Eleanor graduated from State College High School in 1933 and from Penn State University in 1937. Soon thereafter she began 10 years of employment at the Peoples National Bank in State College.
Eleanor was a talented quilter, seamstress and knitter. She so enjoyed sewing for her daughter during her growing up years and later for granddaughters and even great granddaughters. Numerous hours were spent knitting beautiful sweaters for three generations of her family. Her annual bead and sequin calendar creations were Christmas gifts for many years, including 2012.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter Janet Mitchell and her husband George of Lemont; by her sons James and his wife Celestine of West Bend, Wisconsin and Thomas and his wife Tina of State College. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Suzanne Thomas of Amarillo, Texas; Karen Mitchell of Ashburn, VA; Kathleen Hill of Wheeling, WV; Melissa Lein of Beaver Dam, WI; Bryan Hoy of West Bend, WI; George Hoy of Milwaukee, WI; Kiersten Camacho of Moon Township, PA and Julianne Broadwater of State College. Seventeen great grandchildren survive as well. A brother, Kenneth S. Poorman, his wife Betty and a niece, Donna Poorman, also survive.
Eleanor was a long-time member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
