Obituary of Willie Thompson Doty
Willie Ellen Thompson Doty, 79, of State College, died on Sunday, October 20, 2013, at Foxdale Village, State College.
Born December 18, 1933, in Florence, S. C., she was the daughter of the late William Lewis and Docia Bruorton Thompson. On September 7, 1958, she married Robert Bruce Doty, who preceded her in death on October 23, 2010.
She is survived by three children, J. Robert Doty and his wife, Lisa, of Northfield Center, OH., Ellen Hay of State College, Patricia Coyle and her husband, Thomas, of Sparta, NJ.; eight grandchildren, Jack, David, Carolyn and Hannah Hay, Olivia and Gabrielle Doty, Connor and Brett Coyle. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Nina Elizabeth Thompson Rogers.
Willie graduated with a Bachelor's degree in zoology from Winthrop College and a Master's degree in microbiology from The University of Florida.
She retired from Penn State University after more than 25 years of service in the Agricultural Analytical Service Laboratory.
Willie was an active member of the University Baptist and Brethren Church. She was also a member of the 50/50 Square Dance Club and volunteered at the Natatorium giving her assistance to special needs swimmers.
Memorial service will be 2 pm, Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the University Baptist and Brethren Church, 411 S Burrowes St, State College with the Rev. Bonnie Kline Smeltzer officiating.
Burial will be in Jack Branch Cemetery, Conway, South Carolina.
