Obituary of Kathryn McGeary

Kathryn Evans "Kay" McGeary, 83, of State College, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at The Fairways at Brookline, State College, PA. Born January 23, 1930, in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late Josiah Lewis and Mary Christine Townsend Evans. On November 13, 1982, she married the Rev. Dr. William R. McGeary, who preceded her in death on May 18, 2003. She is survived by two step-children, Christine McGeary Clark of Tampa, FL. and W. Daniel McGeary of Palm Desert, CA.; three nephews, Steven Pickett and his wife, Anne, Thomas Pickett and David Pickett, all of Columbus, OH.; two step-grandchildren, Shawn D. and Heather Clark. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Ann Pickett and Lois Dick. Kay was a graduate of Westmont High School, Westmont. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master's degree in Education from Duquesne University. She was a Nursing Instructor for many years, retiring in 1985. Kay was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. She was a former member of the East Liberty Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, where she also sang in the choir, and was a member of P.E.O. Chapter AD. She was an avid golfer. Friends will be received from 1 until 3 p.m., on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the State College Presbyterian Church, 132 West Beaver Ave., State College, with the Rev. Dean Lindsey and Rev. Joel Blunk officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the State College Presbyterian Church Youth Fund, 132 West Beaver Ave., State College, PA 16801.
