Obituary of Sarah Markle
Betsy Markle, a resident of Pennsville, New Jersey for over 65 years, and most recently State College, PA, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014, at Hearthside Rehabilitative Center in State College. Born in Chester County, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Esther Koch Markle. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Capt. William D. Markle (USCG). She is survived by her nieces Catharine Carlson, State College, PA, Susan Maile, Fort Myers, FL, and Sharon McDonald, Irving, TX, along with many great nieces, nephews, and their children, plus many friends.
Betsy was a 1967 graduate of Salem Technical Institute and had many interests and friends as she lived a long and fulfilling life in the Pennsville area. She worked at Shimp's Hardware for over 30 years, becoming a constant and familiar face to customers and staff members alike, and was always willing to help with whatever needed accomplished. She also had many friends at the original Pier 13 Diner in Pennsville, and even had a best selling menu item, Betsy's Grilled Cheese, named for her. Most important was her unwavering commitment to the Union Presbyterian Church in Carney's Point, NJ where she loved music, was a lifelong member, and took an active role in many events including serving as a church Deacon and was always active in the Women's Association and participated in most every event. The many friendships she developed through the church were long-standing and very important to her, as she spoke of them often. She grew up at her home located on the shore of the mighty Delaware River and deeply enjoyed the bird life and daily changes which the river offered. Betsy was a pure and honest person, always looking for the best in people. She welcomed and regarded everyone as a friend.
